YUKO SHIMIZU sketch book projects

Check out a completely different side of me! These are drawings all done on location. I usually draw from my head, therefore it is refreshing to do something completely different sometimes and draw from real life, and get to talk to and get to know people I draw. It is also a great practice to build up my visual memory for from-my-head drawings.

This is a documentary project about Ryan Rivera, a very talented emerging artist in New York. He kindly let me follow him around everywhere.
Ryan's work has been shown in New York in El Museo Del Barrio (2003) and at White Box Gallery (2003).
(*This sketchbook is temporarily down.)

FDNY , Division 1, Battalion 6, Ladder 3 is located on 13th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues in New York city. I went to draw there for about two weeks in December 2001. People there were nice, kind, friendly and helpful to my project.
I really want to go back there to draw again.

In New York, everyone has a big dream. I always bump into artists, and of course musicians as well.
This is a sketch book about musicians in this city who are working toward their big goals.
Drawings were done at Detour, Blue Note, and some other locations in NYC.
