>> END OF THE WORK YEAR, YEAH! >>
A lot of my clients are off from work next week. That means this work year 2007 will end pretty much on this Friday! I feel like I haven't left my studio in about two weeks or so. Well, I do go back home to sleep, but it sure does feel like I am in the studio 24-7.
Here is a pic of my studio right now. I have two machines fully running to finish up all the work.

Some exciting news are:
I am just about to finish up a secret project with a big computer technology corporation. It will go live very soon. I will post the details here as soon as the project is up and running.
And a Pepsi Max can I had designed will be on sale early 2008 as well (world wide, but unfortunately only outside of the US and Canada).
In the editorial world:
New monthly illustration with BEST LIFE Magazine is starting from February issue. At least six more months of Now Hear This! supplement CD cover for THE WORD Magazine in the UK.

Did you have a good year? I guess I cannot complain. Lots of interesting projects, lots of nice clients, lots of business trips and lectures abroad. Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who were so nice to me all this year.
Looking forward to working with you again in 2008. And, looking forward to meeting those whom I hadn't in 2008 as well. I LOVE nice people!

>> LITTLE BROTHER – a new book cover >>
Irene Gallo of Tor Books is one of my favorite art directors to work with. It is not that I asked her directly, but from my work experiencs, I believe she thinks one of the most important part of art directing an illustrator is actually to pick the right illustrator for the right job. I know a few art directors like her. So, once I get picked, she is never fussy or picky about what I do. This is when we (=illustrators) do our best job, I think. It is always nice to be trusted and given freedom because of the trust.

Anyways, I just recently finished a project with her for this book cover Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. Irene just posted an interesting behind-the-scene story of designing the cover. Also Cory himself posted a really kind comment on the cover as well. Thanks to you both, and everyone who was involved in designing the book.
Little Brother will be out in Spring.

>> BERLIN –– VON ERLENBACH ART SCHOOL VIDEO and more >>
I am back from Berlin. Big thanks to everyone who were so nice to me, including; Monika and Katrin Aichele for keeping me great company, Agata Nowicka of Exklusiv for coming all the way from Warsaw, Michael Okraj for giving me a Berlin city tour, and Hendrik Hellge of Die Gestalten for coming to see me and giving me an advance copy of Illusive 2.

Monika and I went to a wonderful Von Erlenbach Art School to give lecture and crit. As an art school instructor myself, I always love to see how art education system varies in each country and try to learn something from it. It was a great experience. Thanks so much!
You can see video clips of Monika and me giving crit. Click on right.
And YES, I am always open to be invited for lectures and guest crits. This year, I was very fortunate to visit art schools not just in the US but also in the UK, Denmark and in Germany. Hopefully, more places to visit in 2008! Travel and meeting people in different places is how I get inspired to create and teach.

>> WHILE I WAS GONE... >>
Thanks so much Chris Buzelli and Sam Weber for taking over my class while I was in Berlin. My students got so inspired and motivated because of your great lectures...

>> MAJOR UPDATES ON THE SITE >>
I was finally able to spend a day updating my site!
People often ask me if I do my own website updates. The answer is YES. (And I have actually even built this site from scratch all by myself, not that it is a fancy site.) Well, that is why this site did not get update for almost two months. I was totally swamped and had no time (physically and psychologically), yikes. But I do LOVE doing maintenance and updates to my site so I cannot think of having anyone else do it for me!
More new image are added to ILLUSTRATION SECTION, and I also finally revised AWARDS page which I was lazy enough to have left it alone for about a year, oops...

>> AMERICAN ILLUSTRATION 26 will be out this week >>
Yes, this was the reason why I finally updated the AWARDS page. Three images (on the right) will be in this new annual.
There will be a BIG PARTY for American Illustration and American Photography this week. See you there?

>> ILLUSIVE 2 will be out soon >>

Marcos and I are excited about being featured in ILLUSIVE 2 (far left) which is already out in Europe and will be out soon in the US. A big thanks goes to Henni of Die Gestalten!

>> TURKISH MAGAZINE FEATURE >>
I got an 8 page feature in Turkey's Photoshop Magazin (near left). Click on the icon to see the pages. Thank you so much Sedef for this. Good luck with your studies!

Thank you Concrete Design for a fun project and great design.

More illustrations will be posted very soon. Sorry! I know I keep saying this.. I am just completely swamped right now, but I will post more, maybe little by little. Please stay tuned.

I have to mention, that Moz at Hammerestein Ball Room ROCKED!!!!!!! Thank you William!

>> DEAR STUDENTS AND ASPIRING ILLUSTRATORS >>
This is a message for art students and aspiring illustrators...
I have been receiving so many e-mails everyday from people asking questions. I am very flattered. At the same time, already swamped juggling my own work and looking after 20 BFA students and 1 MFA student of my own, it is extremely difficult to answer back to each one of you.. If you don't hear back from me, please please don't take it personally!!

>> SPECTRUM 15 JURY. AND, IT IS NO JOKE! >>
When SPECTRUM called me about a year ago to ask me to judge their next competition, I thought it was a joke, or they would forget about it in a year. They DID remember!. Growing up a sci-fi fantasy geek kid, it is my childhood dream coming true. Now, please submit your masterpieces to make our judging a wonderful experience. The details will be posted on their site in fall.
I am also judging UK's Association of Illustrators student category this year.

>> IS YUKO BECOMING A BLOGGER?? >>
The answer is NO. But, Zolton of Lost At E Minor was kind enough to let me be a guest editor this week, and let me talk about what music, art, design and culture I want to share with LAEM readers. You can read my archive here. A few more posting coming up, I think. (Yes, I finally got to talk about my 30 years of The Police obsession!)

I also became an official member of Picture Mechanics.

>> SPECIAL PROJECTS SECTION is now OPEN >>
There are odd projects I do here and there that are not exactly illustration or fine art. Set design is one of them, custom painting a Dunny is another. (I still get inquiries about Interview Magazine fashion shoot I did in 2004. )
So, I opened a new section of all that. It is still under construction, but at least it is live now.

August 2, 2007
Finally.... 6 new sets of illustrations (8 images in total) are added to Recent Illustrations section.

August 1, 2007
>> SOME SITE UPDATES >>
I am back to website overhaul. A little by little...

1) "Show section" added to the site
Now you can see show info at a glance here.
A traveling show in Italy opens tomorrow. IF you are in Napoli, please go stop by. I've heard Egg's Castle is quite a remarkable place. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the opening, I am currently getting ready for SVA Gallery show in September.

2) Added side navi bar to this news section, so browsing through archive is easier.

3) new home page look, and also added a few more buttons on the top navi bar so I can start adding more sections. Please stay tuned...
